Living their best life

We’re making it possible for kids and young adults with disabilities to build a more independent future. With BestLife, they can make friends, build networks and become more independent, away from home.

Inspiring independence

The BestLife difference

BestLife provides Brisbane’s only planned and supported pathway to a more independent life for small groups of young people with disability. The BestLife team walk alongside their young clients supporting them to cultivate lifelong friendships, build confidence and self-esteem, learn life skills and have fun! Preparing them to ultimately live their most independent life – their best life.

You can help

BestLife exists to break the devastating effects of a life of isolation experienced by young people living with disability. A life where disengagement, loneliness and living at home with ageing parents, is often the only option.

Your support and donations will help make this change happen.

Our dream

Actually, we’re not dreaming, we’re planning.

Families of kids with disability know there’s nothing else like BestLife. It’s not babysitting or respite, but an opportunity to do what all kids deserve to do – grow towards independence.

What we do

Before BestLife, kids were lonely and bored, families were exhausted and despondent.

We provide intellectual and emotional support for kids and their families, because every kid deserves the fun of a sleepover, and every family deserves a break. That’s why BestLife offers the highest quality away-from-home experiences for young people who live with disability.

Helena’s House

Our goal

Helena’s House is the next chapter in the BestLife story.

Our goal is to raise enough funds to build a place of our own, where teenagers and young people living with disabilities can take their important next steps toward a life of greater independence.

Our project is named in memory of Helena McIlwain, a beloved team member of the BestLife family who passed away suddenly, she dreamed of becoming an Occupational Therapist and continuing her work with children with disabilities.

Helena would have loved for us to have a house where our teens and young adults could enjoy short stays together, learning life skills and building friendships.

Support us

Purchasing a five bedroom house in Brisbane is no easy project but we know our children would thrive there.

We aim to create a space where we can design exactly the space our children need – accessible bathrooms, an open kitchen where meals can be prepared and shared, a physical therapy space and a safe, sunny garden.

We dream big, but we are working hard for it.
