Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust – a Decade of Support for a More Inclusive Brisbane.

Sometimes the smallest things open up the biggest parts of life.

A beach wheelchair that means someone can finally feel sand and saltwater with friends. Adjustable bedding that creates comfort, safety and dignity. Adapted kitchen equipment that turns “I can’t” into “I did it myself”.

For more than a decade, the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust (LMCT) has quietly helped make these moments possible for BestLife’s young people and families.

Their support has funded practical resources that many of us take for granted, but which can completely change a young person’s ability to participate in everyday life – learning to cook, joining in social activities, building independence, gaining confidence and simply belonging.

And that’s the thing about inclusion. It rarely arrives in one grand gesture. More often, it’s built piece by piece, through thoughtful support that allows young people to experience the ordinary joys of friendship, community and growing independence.

BestLife CEO Kath Coory reflects; “The Trust’s longstanding belief in BestLife’s vision has helped us create something incredibly important; safe, joyful places where friendships grow, confidence builds and young people with disability feel genuinely included in their Brisbane community. It’s been critical to keeping our doors open.”

Beyond the practical support, we are continually grateful for the warmth, kindness and understanding shown by Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner and the LMCT team toward our besties and their families.

As Nina beautifully shared:

“I am truly inspired by the work that BestLife do to break the heartbreaking isolation felt by young people living with a disability. It is so important that these young people have opportunities to be included, to build skills for independence and to have a healthy social life. I am truly grateful to BestLife for the inspiring work that they do.” – Nina Schrinner, Lady Mayoress of Brisbane & Patron of BestLife
